After years of marriage, it may feel like your romance is slowly withering and dying. Don’t let it!
It’s important to fan the flames of love no matter how long you have been married, so here are a few things to do today:
- Learn how to show love to your spouse — Everyone has their own unique “language of love”. Some people prefer physical affection, while others prefer words, while still others prefer romantic gestures. Learn how your spouse likes to be appreciated, and do those things for him/her.
- Spend time to stay in touch — If you don’t spend at least 20 or 30 minutes together every day, you’ll end up out of touch and possibly out of love. Make it a point to talk to each other, listen to each other, and pay attention ONLY to the other person for a short amount of time every day. It will help you to focus on your relationship, keeping that marriage alive.
- Understand — Understanding what your spouse/partner is going through is a lot more difficult than you think. You may never truly understand what they are feeling, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Make it an effort to really listen to them, and show them that you’re making an effort to understand and empathize.
- Be appreciative — The benefits of appreciation cannot be overstated. You cannot show your husband or wife that you are thankful for them TOO MUCH! The more you show that you are thankful, the more loved and appreciated they will feel, and the more likely they will be to reciprocate your affection and appreciation. It’s a cycle of love that will keep your marriage alive for years to come!
Follow the advice here, and your marriage will have a much better chance of succeeding.
