When getting ready for that first date, here’s what you should be doing:
- Check in with her — This is a small thing, but it can help you to avoid some pretty terrible screw-ups on your first date. Think about it: what if she’s allergic to the food served at the restaurant where you wanted to have dinner? What if she HATES the activity you had planned? It’s better to check in and let her know what you have in mind, just so she knows what to expect on the first date. Unless, of course, she has said “Surprise me”, in which case you just want to check in to remind her what time you’re picking her up.
- Check your wallet — Make sure you have enough cash handy for any surprise expenses, and make sure your debit/credit card is in the right place. You don’t want to make your date wait as you run around trying to find an ATM to pull out cash because the restaurant doesn’t take your debit card! As a side note, you’ll want to be certain to have a condom in your wallet. Don’t go into the first date expecting to get laid, but be prepared just in case. It will save you an awkward encounter of trying to explain why you don’t have one, and everyone expects guys to have condoms in their wallets.
- Get the “green light” — Were you introduced via friends or family? You’ll want to check with that friend or family member just to be certain you’ve got the “all clear” signal for your date. If they’re an ex of one of your friends or family, it could make for some awkward encounters down the line!
In Part 2, we’ve got a few more tips to help you prepare for your first date the right way…
